Club Format & Roles

Objectives:

  1. To continue to build a sense of community within the local congregation by getting to know one another other better and by creating an environment where we can share important lessons we have learned in life.

  2. To develop leadership skills that can be utilized now and in the future as needs arise in the Church. This is accomplished by learning time tested principles of leadership that we can use to help promote and build a healthy and growing Church.

  3. To provide opportunities to develop speaking skills as desired through a variety of speaking occasions.

Desired Outcomes:

  1. To get to know each other better by developing deeper relationships

  2. To encourage each other to good works

  3. To grow in the ability to work together as a team

  4. To learn fundamental and advanced speaking skills and improve current speaking skills as desired

  5. To contribute to improved relationships within our families, the Church and our communities

  6. To create an environment that helps individuals develop and grow as Christian men

Club Meeting Format (Approx. 1 hour 40 minutes):

  • Introduction by Club Host (5 minutes or less)

  • Topics Discussion- Current Events, Christian growth for men &/or Questions Relating to Leadership (20 minutes)

  • Speech # 1 - Icebreaker (5 minutes)

  • Speech # 2 - Icebreaker (5 minutes)

  • Speech # 3 - Difficult Scripture (7 to 10 minutes)

  • Speech # 4 - One of the Theme Speeches as described below (7 to 10 minutes)

  • Speech # 5 - Leadership Examples from the Bible as described below (7 to 10 minutes)

  • Book Facilitation (20 minutes) – “The 21 Indispensable Qualities Of A Leader” by John Maxwell

  • Director’s Closing Comments & Assignments for next meeting (5 to 10 minutes)

Roles:

  • Club Host - Plans location and assignments for meeting. Responsible for starting the meeting on time and keeping the meeting moving. Introduces Topics Presenter & Speakers. Arranges for refreshments.

  • Topics Presenter - Responsible for 4 or 5 questions on social trends, current events, Christian growth for men, and/or questions relating to leadership.

  • Icebreaker speeches Tell us about yourself – a little of your background, religious or otherwise, skills, hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc. Share some things about yourself that will be interesting and helpful to the other men and enable them to get to know you better.

  • Difficult Scripture Speech - Clearly explain a scripture that many people have misunderstood for one reason or another. Show how it has been misunderstood, then give the explanation. Review the church’s literature about the subject during preparation.

  • Theme Speech - Can include themes such as: thoughts/ideas/methods which can help the men to achieve the objectives or outcomes of the club (as listed above) or thoughts/ideas/methods to being an effective leader in the church, home or at work. Considering the stated objectives and outcomes, this could include such topics as: the importance of fellowship, how to build healthy and godly relationships, how to encourage others to good works, what good works should be encouraged, important principles of building a team, how to be an excellent team member, etc. You might want to pick some specific instruction from God in the Bible to men and give a speech about that. Just a few suggestions.

  • Leadership Example from Bible Speech – Present a review of an individual from the Bible that demonstrates leadership qualities. Discuss the specific leadership qualities demonstrated and how those lessons/ examples apply to our lives today as Christian men in God’s Church.

  • Book Facilitation – Lead a group discussion of the main point(s) in the assigned chapter(s) of the book “The 21 Indispensable Qualities Of A Leader”, including what Biblical principles support that point, examples which support that point and what each reader found valuable or not valuable regarding that point as discussed in the book. The facilitator should be prepared with some of his own observations about the chapter that he can share at the beginning of or later in the discussion.

  • Director - Presents Closing Comments of the meeting which may include one or more of the following: sharing an experience which points out a time-tested principle of leadership; instruction on fundamental and/or advanced speaking techniques; a discussion of principles of character which apply specifically to a man’s God ordained roles. Will then end the club by assigning the next chapter(s) to read in the book, and will assign next Club Host then ask for volunteers for Topics, Speaking Assignments & Book Facilitator. Works with Club Host to plan location and additional assignments for next meeting. Select scripture for difficult scripture speech.
